How can I use caramel sauce to write on a birthday cake?

Alright, so I am making my roommate a birthday cake. I could have sworn I had decorative icing or food dye to write "Happy Birthday" with, but I don't. I have some caramel sauce and chocolate syrup and was thinking about writing it with those. First off- it's a funfetti cake with homemade vanilla icing, would it taste good with a bit of caramel and chocolate? Second- how can I make it easier to write with caramel? I was thinking of using a zip loc bag with a small hole. Any other ideas?

that would work perfectly but both caramel and chocolate syrup will run and spread and might ruin the lines. You could mix some left over whie frosting with either caramel or chocolate and stiffen the writing icing and then go ahead.
