how can i unlock my iphone?

we have a iphone with a tmobile sim card . and the other day we wanted to updated so we could download a application. so we went to itunes and started the update and at the end it pop up on the screen that the sim card was not supported with the iphone that we need to put the sim card that supposly came with it..now is not lettin me do anythin with it. i try the tmobile sim card but not workin. what can i do pliz.. i need my phone and i dont want to pay to go and repair it
