How can I tell if my bike frame will support a bike rack?

It would be most convenient if my frame will hold a rack; using a messenger bag while riding 10 miles to school sucks... I don't know what exactly I'm looking for as far as extra holes.. And does anybody know if a local bike shop could drill them? Would it weaken my frame significantly?
thanks

There will be mounts around the seat post on the stays going to the rear axle. There should also be threaded holes around the rear axle. You can also get a rack that mounts on the seat post with no other attach points. You just have to find the one with right angle. The local bike shop can fix you up.
