How can I stop my cat from lounging on the cable box?

When we got a new cable box my cat discovered that it made a really nice warm bed. We knew it wasn't the best place for her but the way we have it set up the cable box is on a lower shelf (it's just a small little TV table and the flat screen TV fits the entire top of the table, no room for a cable box).

It can't be good as far as getting fur and dirt dropped down into it & she's also been getting her claws stuck in it, which looks massively painful.

How can I break her of the habit?
I thought of using her spray bottle but I don't want to spray electronics with water.
I'd try the "pennies in a can" trick to startle her, but she's pretty stubborn when she finds a nice warm place to sleep. She has to be if she's willing to tear out a claw or two for this spot.

Any ideas?
Are we just going to have to invest in a different sort of shelving space?

They have things at pet stores that you can put on couches or things that will keep your animals away from things. i forgot what it was called but i am sure its worth a shot.

idk if you live in the city or not, but they make plastic spikes that you put on your window sill to keep pigeons away, they might be hard to find outside of a city though. Unless the cat jumps on it, i don't think it would hurt him and he would learn really quick. Or just do something like throw him off of it every time, he might learn not to.
