My car has major engine damage and I want to sell it as a "mechanic's special" to someone that can fix it in their own driveway or garage. The car starts and runs but will not pass the smog test because it has a blown head gasket. How do I legally sell this car in California? I will have no trouble finding a buyer who is willing to fix it and smog it later on, but I need to make sure that I'm released from the legal responsibility to get it smog tested.
