How can I save an image as a jpg if the software does not allow that option?

I am using software to create patterns for my embroidery machine. I basically upload my image, the program converts it into stitches and once I like the way it looks, it gets exported directly to the machine. I cannot only save it as a file that can be opened by that program. There are no other save options. The problem is that when doing custom designs, I cannot do any kind of screen capture within the program to save the digital proof as a jpg or I cannot export it as anything either. My only option is to print it out then scan the print which loses resolution and most of my customers want email proofs. Is there any way to save it as a jpg via the print file? Is there any program that I can get that will allow this?

Here's what I do:

1. Bring the image up on your monitor so that you're looking at it
2. hit the "print screen" button on your keyboard. This saves an image of anything your monitor is displaying at that moment onto your clipboard.
3. open MS Paint (under accessories on your start menu--->all programs
4. Select "Paste" on the "Edit" menu

5. you will now see a picture of your entire desktop and the image you had displayed at the time you hit the print screen button
6. move the image around to make it look like you want (meaning trim off the image of your menu bar and what not)
7. "File" "Save As" and pick jpeg.

Hope this helps!
