How can I read an unformatted flash drive?

My flash drive worked yesterday but today when I put it into a different computer, a box came up that side the drive was unformatted and will not let me view the files. I tried this on other computers and it said the same thing, even on the computer I opened it up on before that worked fine.
 
It sounds like an incompatible format. Like, if you formatted it on a Mac as "Mac OS X Extended"
That's why most people format their USB drives FAT32. Then anything can read it.
