How can I raise money for my bike ride across America?

Hi im Austin im 20, my friend Nick and I are attempting to raise money for underprivileged kids across the U.S. by riding bicycles across the U.S., like building playgrounds, skate parks, giving kids shoes, skate boards, ect, but we need donations and sponsors.

Contact newspapers, radio stations, and televised news channels
from all major cities you will be going through. Tell them your cause, contact, and if they would mind doing an advertisement or feature story.

This is not as hard as it seems. Write a generic letter, and copy and paste (or send) it to them with only a changed date of the estimated time you will be in their city. If you get a reply, make sure to follow up with them a week before you are in their town to set up the interview.

Make sure you set up a website with your benefit's mailing address, and a pay pal account on it. Put pictures and video up from your trip, so people can track your progress and make sure you are legit.

Set up a myspace, facebook, and twitter to get the word out to your distant friends and family. Then, they will tell their friends and family and their friends and family, etc.
