how can i put music on my t-mobile pulse?

ive activated the memory card and transferred music in mp3 format and in wav format. in both cases i can find the music on the card but when i select play from options, the phone says it does not recognise the format.
I am using Vista and would really appreciate a step-by-step idiots guide,
