how can I prevent water ingress on my garden deck balustrade?

have recently completed build of a low-level garden (floating) deck over an existing patio area.
The balustrades are conventional, i.e. after the style commonly used for stairs inside a typical house. I am concerned that the construction invites rain water to sit at the bottom of the spindles as they are fitted in an inverted banister rail at the bottom, grooved to accommodate the spindles and the spacers fitted between. This seems to be a natural trap for water as nowhere have I yet seen any information as to how to prevent - in a discreet way - the ingress of water at these points. Can anyone advise please?
