How can I prevent my stereo from ever going above a certain volume?

I have a sweet little step daughter who listens about as good as a door knob but enough about that! I want to make something that prevents the sound from ever going over a certain volume. This can be just a resistor that maxes out at a certain volume or whatever but it needs to be adjustable. I don't want it to limit the sound as a hole because some channel volumes are a lot lower than others so it needs to be a sound cap so that each channel can be turned up to this specified sound cap. Maybe a sound meter compiled with something else, i don't know but i am so close to going crazy here I need a solution to this!
