How can i paint the Monster M on my wall without having to hire a professional?

I had an idea of just painting a big monster green area of the wall, then lay out the M in painters tape and then painting the rest black around it( color of the walls will be black) but how could i do this, without pulling the paint off with the tape? please help =)

you could use a stencil instead of tape
