How can I mount images to game in order to play them?

I am trying to play this ps2-turned-PC game but it says I need to "mount and image" or burn it to a disc in order to play. What is the importance of mounting and how can I do it?.......One friend suggests I drop the whole thing and just JTAG the sh!t and play it...But I'm not that desperate.
