How can i mod my psp slim at home?

I modificated my psp at a local game store,but since its a incomplete mod everytime the battery seperates from the psp or i completely turn off the psp,the mod is gone..is there a downloadable program or something that i can use to mod it at home and not pay so much money everytime??
