How can I make my own MP3 ringtone?

I have a phone that supports MP3 ringtones(Nokia 5300). I already have the part I want for my ringtone as an MP3 file, but whenever I try to set it as a tone, it keeps having the message: Cannot be set as a ringing tone. However, the time limit is right and it is in MP3 format. But how come it won't work? A little help please?
