how can i make my headphones (through my laptop) play mono rather than stereo?

i went into sound and the only option there is stereo and it pisses me off, i have the singing in one ear and the music in the other

and if i only have one headphone i dont know what is going on

if there is anywhere i can download it my laptop is an acer extensa 5235 with windows 7
