How can i make my dirt bike get good traction in the snow?

I was looking at The RadiX Kit but that is way more than i can afford and probably over double what my bike is worth. I am thinking about making my own set of chains but am not sure how safe that would be. Any advice? Oh and if it helps i have 2002 Honda XR250R

If you have an extra tire you are willing to experiment on you can drill holes in it from the inside out and put bolts through it to get traction on the snow. You will need to use threaded bolts and put nuts on the inside and outside with some thread locker on them to keep them from working loose. Then you get some duct tape and line the inside of the tire to keep the bolt heads from puncturing your tube. I know this will work, Ive seen it done.
