How can I make a white background besides using photoshop?

people have said ms paint, but I dont see anything to completely remove a background. Using a paintbrush comes out very sloppy and I want a clean white background. I'm trying for a website to put products on with and only white background in the picture but don't know which direction to take besides adobe. I see Corel also has products but do they do the job/ at a lesser price than photoshop? If you know a way please give me a few directions also
