how can I keep the ebooks downloaded from Overdrive Media Console?

i am downloading from m,y public library, WAR & PEACE by Tolstoy using Overdrive Media Console. It is for the maximum 21 day period. I understand that it will not work after the 21 day lending period. This book is so HUGE. It will take me at least 6 months to read it. It takes hours to download it. What can I do?? Will it really quit working after the 21 days? Renewal means hours of downloading. This is a huge puzzlement. Help anyone?
