How can I keep my dog from eating cat litter?!?

Hello,

I have a cat and a dog, and the cat's litter box is in the bathroom under the sink. My dog lately has been getting in there and eating it, and then later on he starts hacking and throws it all up.

So I bought a tent thing to go around the litter box and put it at an angle to prevent him from getting in there, but he finally figured it out...

How/What can I do to keep this from happening? It just makes him sick!

Thanks,
Nikole

My old dog started this habit last year. The vet clinic told me that you can buy something to sprinkle on the cat's food to make their feces smell unpleasant to a dog. I didn't use it because my dog is terminally ill. You may try turning the entrance to the litter box around so the dog can't reach in, but he may figure that one out too. lol

Vets say that cats dont totally digest their food and the poo tastes good to the dogs (rich in nutrients) lol. I believe there is a pill at the pet store you can put in the cat food that will make the poo uninviting to dogs. You can also try facing the litter box opening toward the wall to where to cat can get in but not the dog. Hope this helps.

put a gate around it and put a cat stand next to it for the cat to jump down in it. Or put a really little door that the cat can go though but the dog can't. Cat can squeeze in some small spaces.
