I have a 2001 Jeep Grand cherokee Limited, what i want to do is take out the original stereo and stock amplifier and put in my own system that i have, but i dont know which wires i need to use to connect my stereo and disconnect the stock amp without frying anything. Someone please help me, im tired of listening to the radio and scratched CD's i need my ipod and my bass back.Thanx.

Step 1Disconnect the battery!

Step 2Begin by gently removing the large plastic faceplate that generally surrounds the console. (this usually requires some convincing, I like to use a flat head screw driver to pry it off) There will be wires connected to this to control A/C and the like.

Step 3Disconnect all wires. They will be harnessed together so DO NOT pull on individual wires. Set this part of your dash aside.

Step 4Unscrew the factory installed Dash kit(this is the unit that is holding the Deck) and disconnect any of the wires connecting it to your vehicle. Take the entire unit out.

Step 5Now unwrap your new dash kit and slide the Deck in as displayed in the instructions provided with your unit. This is best done inside.

Step 6Now the most time consuming step, connecting the new Deck wires to the corresponding wires on the wiring harness you purchased. The crimping tool should also have a spot for stripping wires. Strip enough insulation off to ensure good conductivity but not too much so that the wiring butt can't cover up the exposed copper. In order to ensure that you are connecting the correct wires to each other closely follow the diagram provided with your Deck. If you don't have one they are usually color coordinated with the Black wire being your ground.

Step 7Once you know what wires are paired together begin connecting them with the wiring butts. Slide the stripped part of the wire into the end of the butt until no more copper is visible. Now using your crimping tool crimp the wire right behind the neck part of the butt. For the most secure hold crimp with a larger part of the tool first and then tighten it with the smaller one. Repeat for all of the wire pairs... there may be some unused wires but this is ok.

Step 8Now that all your wiring is finished take the completed dash kit with Deck and wiring installed out to your car. Connect the wiring harness to the one in the car(simple male/female connection).

Step 9Reconnect your battery and make sure the system works.

Step 10Screw in the dash kit to secure your new unit. The dash kit may not be a perfect fit so some trimming of the edges may be required.

Step 11Put the dash faceplate back on, reconnecting any wiring required for A/C and what not.

Select a location for your amplifier. For the sake of example, we will assume you have chosen the trunk as your amplifier location.

Step 2Run the radio signal wires from your stereo back to your amplifier on the opposite side of your car's battery. If your battery is centrally located, pick either side.

Step 3Route the blue remote lead wire, which is usually a very-small-gauge wire, from the radio receiver to your trunk. Route this wire on the other side of the car.

Step 4Attach the heavy-gauge wire (8 gauge or larger for most amplifiers) to your car's battery using the fittings that come with your amplifier wiring kit. Then route this power cable to your trunk on the same side of your car as the remote lead.

Step 5Strip 1/2 inch of insulation off the ground wire to attach to your amplifier.

Step 6Affix a ring or spade on the other end of the ground wire, and then use a self-tapping screw and attach the ground wire directly to the body of your car.

Step 7Secure your amplifier in your trunk by screwing it into the body or some other location.

Step 8Connect the signal cables, power, ground wire and remote lead to your amplifier.

pull your radio out of course and simply unplug it from its wiring harness. The stock amp should pry be the same. Dont cut any wires cuz you can go to walmart and get an aftermarket plug that would hook directly to the harness in the jeep and then to the cd player. You could even ask a walmart employee what kind of plug you need and they should be able to point you in the right direction. If you plan on hard wiring the deck yourself, then i hope you know what your doing. good luck
