How can I improve my '06 Chrysler 300c(RWD) in the snow?

I live in Long Island, New York and about a week or two ago we had a pretty bad storm. The car whenever I would stop it would get stuck in the snow, pulling out of my driveway was a nightmare. The car comes equipped with traction control which has stayed on all winter, but how exactly can i get a better response from the car? I have given thought to trading in the car to get an AWD, but I have come across people that say AWD is not exactly what it is made out to be, That throwing a good set of snow tires should suffice, and would be the most inexpensive way to better my car.

What brand of snow tires are the best? and what exactly is the difference between snow-tires and winter-tires?

All answers are greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Carlos H.

what people say AWD is not all its said to be???? i have a awd subaru and will put it up against any 4 wd..[with AT tires on it] we routinely go through 3 to 6 inches of unplowed snow...we live back roads in farm country Appalachian mountains... ...i lived for 35 yrs on long island [patchogue] and always has 2wd pain in the srse even thoulg its kinda flat...get AWD..look on tirerack.com or discount tires.com...they can fix you up... you need M&S...mud and snow tires..

If you intend to buy an AWD, go Subaru. They have the history...everyone else came into the AWD years (and years) later.
Winter tires = snow tires. Some are studdable, i.e., they are built to accept ice studs. These studs are little guys that get inserted in
intervals in the tire tread and they help grip on ice. They also make a lot of noise on dry pavement. Some states in the east actually have "season" when stuuded tires are not permitted to be used. Check with your highway patrol on this.
Firestone Winterforce is probably the best bet...for your vehicle. They are studdable and have a really agressive tread. Snow/winter tires have softer rubber are are NOT designed to be run year round. Also, you may try putting sand bags in your trunk.

Good luck.

weight the back down. Use sand bags or gravel as they can be opened for extra traction if you get stuck. Thats byfar the cheapest way. cant say much for the tires though,
