How can I get slimmer thighs at the gym?

I have been going to the gym for the last 3-4 months. I feel much healthier and really enjoy it but I seem to be getting a lot chunkier on my hips, thighs and bum and I weigh more.

I know this is to do with muscle build up and I am more happy that I am keeping fit and healthy but I am struggling to fit into my skirts and trousers and certainly can't afford a new wardrobe.

What can I do to stay fit but not bulk out?

My current workout is generally 5 days a week, 20 minutes on the cross trainer, 20 sit ups, and light exercise using the chest muscle exercise machine.
