hi. ijust wanna get off pain pills . presently i have 8/10mgs percs and 20/5mgs.percs. what would be the best way to ween myself off and avoid the withdrawl?

First of all, good for you for wanting to get off of them. The answer is slowly.

I know it's a short answer, but it's true.
Take it day by day, and eventually your body will be used to not having the pills in it's system. You will have cravings; you must ignore them.

I know this is a relatively small time, but after my tonsillectomy/adenoid removal I was taking vicodin/liquid vicodin 2x a day, sometimes 3 when my mom wasn't paying attention, for about a month.
I stopped cold turkey. Worst.Idea.Ever. I didn't sleep right for about two weeks, I had mini convulsions and that withdrawal feeling.
But guess what? It went away, and I'm opiate free.

You can be too.

If you are taking them for any reason besides "they were prescribed to you for pain" I would DEFINATELY just come off of them slowly! If you ween yourself off but still have some left, get rid of them so you aren't tempted to take them! You are doing the right thing by wanting to quit! When your done weening urself off them, run & never look back! :) Be glad that you aren't trying to come off of something stronger then those. Withdrawals are disgustingly brutal! If you stop taking them, you won't go thru the brutal withdrawals, the mg's you are taking is definately a huge benefit to you, i am glad you want to stop before you got up to unnessesary Oxycontin use, i wish you the best of luck!

I tapered my dose down every few days until I got down to 1/8th of a pill, then I used the Thomas Recipe. It is in my blog if you want to check it out. I was on Percs for almost 7 years, and I've been clean for 21 days. It was hard but so worth it. I feel like I've been set free from prison. I think the first thing you have to do, must do, is cut off your supply. Tell your doctor or who ever not to give you any more opiates. It takes a lot of guts. But it is a relief. It gives you closure.
I'm no longer chained to those pills anymore. And I feel so much better.
If you use the Thomas Recipe, don't go out in the sun if you take the L-tyrosene. It made my skin have dark splotchy patches. It works though, because at the beginning, when you are off the percs, you just have the blahs and don't feel like doin' anything. The L-tyrosene lifts your mood.
Good luck. Keep posting or start a blog.

Hi
Just hang in there, I know what you going through, I used to have severe migraine headaches and started taking a particular headache pain killer in powder form. Its an over the counter med and you even get it in supermarkets and small cafes. Well I got so hooked that I take one every single morning, otherwise I get a rebound headache. Its such a vicious circle but I cant do without it. First I used to take it becos I had a headache and now I take it before I get a headache. Never thought it would take control over me like this. Im trying slowly but its just so hard in the mornings.
Good luck:angel:
