How can I get my midi from my keyboard to work on my cubase software?

I have never really used cubase before in my life and I have bought the Cubase Esssential 5 just to be able to make some music for fun. I have a Casio keyboard but am really confused in how to be able to get the music I play on the keyboard to show up on the cubase on my laptop. I have a Midi USB connector from my keyboard to my laptop but it still doesnt show. I am really really basic so please dont use language that is too complex! Thank you =0D
