How can i get my laptop to recognize my sidekick lx{HELP!}?

Every time i plug in my sidekick lx using a usb cord(i even tried three different ones and on my cousin computer) it always say "usb device not recognize"...How do i get my laptop to recognize it? i really need HELP its the only way i can charge my phone{well i can use the car charger but i hate leaving my phone in the car im always missing calls and other stuff}iM a BIG texter
