My aunt gave me her car and filled out the paper work that releases the title to me, but I never paid to have the title officially put in my name. After a few months I got the money, but couldn't find the physical title. I can't get ahold of my aunt to have her file for a new title, and I can't get the expired registration taken care of without the title. I do still have the paperwork that transfers the title to my name, but the date is almost a year old. What can I do to get the title, to get the title in my name, and to register the car?

---I have already received a ticket for expired registration, so I can't get a temporary registration sticker.
I live in Texas.
The paperwork I have is the form to transfer the title, signed by my aunt.

If would help to know what country or state you're in.
If CA:
You can pay fore the registration without the title. The DMV won't ask for the title at the time that their getting money from you. You can find out how much is owed at this CA website. https://mv.dmv.ca.gov/FeeCalculatorWeb/renewalForm.do
Your aunt probably has the renewal notice, since the DMV still thinks it's in her name. You will be like her personal assistant standing in line, paying the fees due for her.

Now, the title. You say you can't get a hold of your aunt. Forever? I'm mean can you leave her a message or email. Even if it takes you another year, you need the owners signature eventually.
And what do you mean you still have the paperwork that transfers the title to your name.....??? You either have the signed title or you don't.
There will be a small penalty for the transfer being late, so pay it.
Since it's a gift, you will also need a Statement of Facts with the gift box checked. That exempts you from sales tax.
In CA you need to have a smog certificate also that's not more than 90 days old.
