How can I get my betta fish to go into the net?

I have a betta fish in a 1 gallon tank (I know it's small, but I'm getting a 5 or 10 gallon soon) and I will need to clean it soon. Of course I have to take him out to clean it since it is so small, but he HATES the net. He refuses to get in it. I have to chase him around the tank for like, 5 minutes! Is there some secret to make him get in the net?
