My son is 14. He is an intelligent person who gets almost all straight A's. He does well with sports and is overall well rounded; however he goes into stages where he will not talk. This is for the most part when he wants to do something and my husband and I will not let him. A good example is when going to my mothers 65th birthday dinner he did not want to go so he sat in his hoodie (hood up) and would not talk. Not even to wish her a happy birthday. There are many more examples. I have never heard of this. He will not respond even when being directly talked to! My husband thinks it is a sign of depression. I believe it is a 14 year old temper tantrum. We want to help him and it has gotten progressively worse. We are at a loss. We are thinking counseling; but what if he goes there and just does not talk. We have taken his phone and his lap top. He knows that he is going to be punished and still he chooses to ignore us. Any advice?
