How can I get into more popular music?

I don't want to be one of those assholes who think they are better than everyone else because they like some obscure band.
I want to be able to talk to people about music. Preferably people my age (14).
Even the current music I like is for wannabe hipsters.
I can blame my mother for this, she got me into all this music nobody has ever heard of (and the people who have are all 40+ geeks).
There has got to be a way to trick myself into enjoying popular music.

I sound like an ass up there but I'm not kidding lol.
 
Internet is the best and the easiest way to get the latest music because every artists believe in online music promotion so you can get the better stuff on the internet.
