How can I get further in ballroom?

I'm homeschooled. I take a ballroom dance class with my mom's friend. It's only 45 minutes long, and we dance in an unairconditioned garage with no windows to open. I only keep going back cuz it's free and it's the only way I can dance. My teacher is my mom's best friend and she is a professional ballroom dancer and teacher. She always takes extra time to practice with me when I am doing an audition (short solo dance with partner), but we don't perform for anyone except our parents! I really want to compete in ballroom and latin, but how am I going to??? We perform on a stage in a public library nearby. I hate it because no one sees me dance except a few people, the parents of the few friends I have. My teacher says she will have us perform in public in the future, but she said that last year too! I love dance but I feel like I'm getting nowhere!!! Help!

You aren't "getting nowhere." There's nothing wrong with perfecting your technique before moving on. It's boring to work on simple figures on your own, time and time again, but it pays off later. Trust your teacher, go with the program, and have some patience.
