How can i get even better? why do i struggle when composing music?

ok.. so ive been playing guitar like a maniac for 2 years now and i am at the level where i can play really fast metallica, van halen, and other great solos. but i try to bust out a solo of my own but it doesnt add up compared to other solos.. and i know i still have to practice but when i compare the notes themselves to real solos they dont add up. :( any tips?

and for the second part.. i want to start composing my own material but i get a block im my creativity to the point that the fretboard looks really small and if i want to compose some great riff i just cant seem where to start because it feels like everything good has already been written. i also have trouble finding rhythm when i TRY to write... ugh it sucks.

what do i learn from here to get better ANd yeah i know that practice is included.. but theres something missing.. any help from more expirence guitarists? PLEASE?

Okay, first, don't get frustrated. Great composers have had either a TON of practice or in many cases, a lot of modern rock and pop music is written with the help of professional writing teams who have trained as composers their whole lives, studied it at college, etc. That doesn't mean you can't write something truly original and brilliant though! Composing is like an instrument. It must be practiced with great diligence and also studied in abstract of actually writing (enjoyable) music.

How much do you know about theory? Learn music theory like the back of your hand my friend. Analyze the guitar solos you love and learn WHY they work so well. Take time to improvise. Out of improvisation first ideas may begin to emerge. Most important of all, don't expect it to be easy! Composition is often dull grueling work. Composers live for the times when thing come together though. The reward is worth it! Best of luck.
