I have a reasonable ear, but I don't have a lot of experience with formal verse. I can normally figure it out, but I'm not very confident about it yet.
Take, for example, this line of poetry:
"Denial mastered hopeful reverie."
I think it breaks down like this:
De-NI-al MAS-tered HOPE-ful REV-er-rie
Making it four iambic feet, followed by a single pyrrhic foot? Would the last foot be iambic in context? Or is REV-er-RIE just unnatural?
I'm never sure. Help, advice?
