How can I get away from using toxic mediums when I only paint weekly?

Do I really have to rub the painting down first? Does using just linseed oil mixed with the paint make it darken too much?

There is a new type of acrylic paint called Interactive that dries slower than traditional acrylic, the brand is Atelier. It probably won't stay wet a week on the canvas. If I have mixed paint that I want to keep I make little packets out of aluminum foil. They will keep for a week.

Funny, about using only linseed oil, I asked the same question a while ago in an art shop and they told me it could clot after a long time. Just today I asked in a forum and somebody said "this art shop should not be in business". And its ok as long as you don't use too much of it. I am painting atm only with oil, no turpentine and use oil if the layer got too dry - so no short time effects for sure.
Maybe you can get walnut oil where you live, I heard the quality is even better compared to linseed oil.
But I don't know what you mean with "rub down the painting"

well if you want to keep using oil paints then you can simply switch over to water soluble oil paints. they dont stay wet as pure oil paints but it is a safer alternative. if you want to go completely away from oil then you can go acrylics. there are mediums that you can mix with acrylics to help them stay wet longer. there is a slow drying medium that allows them to dry a lot slower. the gel mediums also slow the drying time of the acrylic paint. if you want to save the paint that you have mixed then simply use a pallet with a lid or any method that keeps the air from the paint and that paint will stay liquid for about a week.
