How Can I Get a Better HD Picture?

Sup guys. Ive had bell for about six years.
just upgraded my 3100 to a 6141.
i was expecting the picture to look alot better :(
on some channels i cannot even notice a difference
like if i close my eyes and switch between the same channel on hd and sd i cannot tell which is which.
some channels like cbc, ctv, national geographic, do look good
is there anything you guys can recommend?
i have a 40" polaroid lcd, set on 1080i, connected with the hdmi/dvi cable that came with the receiver.
 
The only thing I can think of is that the TV does not handle 1080i as a native resolution, I might be tempted to try 720p as the output of the 6141. Bell broadcast all channels at 720p so that will save the receiver from upconverting and the TV from downconverting.
 
Not all HD channels show 24/7 HD content. So, when you are comparing, is the HD channel actually showing HD? Is it widescreen or do you have the black bars on both channels?
 
So the HD channels for bell with the 6141 are all in 720p? not 1080? is 1080 only blueray?
 
Make sure that you have the STB set to output 720P (or 1080i), not 480P which some of them come with as a default. Make sure you're watching a true HD programme as mentioned above. See the following relevant posts:

i tried 720p as well, looked the same as 1080i
and ya i see what you mean, only some of the shows on a hd channel are actually hd (widescreen).
 
In the Guide if they have "HD" in front of the programme name they are HD, the rest are not.
 
Not totally correct..............some HD designated channels broadcast shows in SD. Depends if the program is providing them with the HD feed.
 
Pinza wasn't talking about HD channels, he was talking about the HD designation of a particular programme. This information is not 100% accurate, however, it's better than nothing. BTW, HD channels don't broadcast shows in SD, if the original programme was SD, they broadcast upconverted SD programmes in HD format (720P or 1080i).
