how can i fix the time it takes for my car to accelerate?

see i just got a new engine old one got a piston broken during a trip across country... its been a week and they told me that it would take a few days for the new engine to settle down and that would get the car to be like before but my engine revs too much at times when parked and when im driving it doesn't respond as fast as it should i have to wait bout 2-3 secs for it to respond at times it takes longer what can i do to react like it should or better....
 
Always check the old spark plugs and wires, and the injectors may be older if its a used engine. Get a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and run it through your gas, cheap way to make sure its not injectors.
