how can i fix my photoshop text tool problem?/?

my text tool doesn't work. i can click on the tool and make a box but the cursor doesn't show up to type something. when i click on the layer the name of the layer shows what i typed, but you can't see it on the screen,, what do i do.?
 
.......u dont make a box...nub

u just click where u want it to be and just type, DONT MAKE A BOX!

and make sure the layer is at the top of the list or else it might not show up =/
