...Engine Computer? I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and my gas needle is not working properly. I can put $15 of gas in my car, and the computer still might make it jump to "Low Fuel" seconds later!! It not accurate! It's either ALL THE WAY on F or E. I've been trying 2 get the gas fuel tank float dropped and everything but it went back to being crazy. Now, the computer seems to be working JUST FINE on EVERYTHING ELSE BUT the gas needle! Do I need to completely replace my car's engine computer or do I need to have it re-calibrated/reprogrammed maybe?

The fuel gauge is usually fed info from the sensor in your tank. perhaps check the wiring for faults or corrosion. You could also remove the sensor from the tank and check it with an OHM meter and compare against specifications.

You were trying to get the float dropped? I don't understand, did they replace the sending unit? The problem is the sending unit in the tank.

Your fuel level sending unit is bad. The float that sends a signal to the fuel gage is located in the fuel tank. The fuel pump and sending unit are one assembly. A new fuel pump for my '98 Suburban runs about $260.00.

no you need a new sending unit in the gas tank that's what makes it read how much gas it has in it the computer doesn't determine how much the needle reads, the sending unit does this part of it,it has a low fuel light but that also is functioned by the sending unit in the gas tank, good luck.
