How can i find who own this cell phone?

Okay someone sent me a horrible text from a cell number. I paid the money to do a checdk on the phone. I have found out that they bought the phone or put it under a good friend of mine's name. I know for a fact my good friend never bought this phone or sent the text message. How do i find either this persons address or there name?
 
Thats hard to answer.
But it has to be someone who had your friends birthcertificate and social
if it was on a plan, or contract.
Pre payed like the pre paied verizon, dont even ask for id. or anything.
So they could lie. Id figure out how to track the phone.
