how can i find the installed items from the exchange on my sims 3 game?

The game launcher tells me its installed and when i go to change a sims appearance i see the contents of the installed sims in the custom tray, i just dont see the sim itself nor the house(lot) in the game. Is there anything i have to do in specific during game play?
