How can I find and trap a spider that is hidden in my lounge?

There is a huge spider that has hidden itself in my lounge. It is approx 6 inches across. I once got somebody to catch it and put it outside my block of apartments (I'm on top), but it has come back to my apartment again. I'm terrified of spiders and cannot stand them. I saw it in my lounge and tried to kill it but it ran away and I can't find it now. I really need to get it out, I'm so scared that I won't leave my bedroom. I've locked the door on it. How can I catch it or find it? Any help appreciated.
 
You could put some borax 20 mule team cleaner in shallow containers and see if it will get in one of those. If it does, you will find it dead.
