How can I do an at-home throat culture?

I think you can. First you need to find a supplier of biological science lab equipment (there's probably one nearby) and buy a petri dish. Don't know of an alternative to a petri dish. Then you can swab your throat with a sterile swab. Check at what temp you need to grow your potential culture. The difficult part will be to identify any growth or culture. You'll need a microscope and a reference guide. Maybe you could post pics on the web and ask experts what it is e.g., streptococcus?

I couldn't let that first answer stand. Probably published by a doctor. Of course you can do it. It's whether or not you can do it and meet the criteria you're aiming for. Are you trying to save money? If so, the docs is probably your best alternative if you need all the equipment I just described. Are you trying to be secret? Then maybe a walk in clinic would be best.

Bottom line, you can do it...but should you?
