I can say that my heritage background has helped me to understand other races, cultures, and individuals. I am a biracial individual. My mother is Mexican and my father is Black. Both of my races are important to me but I identify more with being Mexican. For almost twenty five years I grew in a community that was predominantely Mexican. I learned how to speak spanish from my family, and my grandmother because she only spoke Spanish. My speaking spanish is important to me because I know that my bilingual skills is a value assest that I have and that I can use to benefit other people.
