You remind me of a guy I really liked eons ago.
Firs statement he uttered when he finally mustered the guts to talk to me (after befriending my friends and setting up a scenario with my cousin and their friends so he can go in while I was left alone) was: "Can I court you?"
Uh? My immediate reaction was (thought bubble): "so you wanna be sure first before you exercise the necessary effort, huh?.." nothin doin. if i am fully aware that the guy thinks i am not worth the effort then i'd advise him to find a girl who he thinks is worth risking his pride over.
the guy repeatedly appeared in the different stages of my life for about 10 years but still he'd be tongue tied and would wait for me to give him encouragement.
then I met somebody who was more upfront about what his plans for us were (that was before). I committed with the guy.
a year or so later, i met the guy I used to like, again. He finally approached me without an advance party paving the way for him.
Too late for us both.
***if you really like a girl, then be man enough to take the risk. it will show her that you value her more than you value your pride.
the guy i liked finally told me last year that it was only i whom he'd taken the courage to court.

he considered that courting?
i decided not to tell him i was so into him back then.
what's the use? i don't feel the same way anymore.
