How can I call home from France on my verizon htc incredible over wifi?

I'll be in France for 10 days, and I have a google voice account and phone number. I'd like to be able to call home from the room with wifi or from coffee shops, etc. I've seen something about sipDROID? or gizmo5 (seems to be unavailable), but I'm clueless about those and really need a step by step tutorial. THANKS
