Get a bachelor's degree in a respected school, with a high GPA, complete pre-med courses while in school, do well on the MCAT exam.
While the MD is the normal route, consider also an DO degree (Osteopathic physician). They have the same license to practice medicine as MDs, and they are much more likely to set up practice as primary care (DO degree + internship) than MDs, who often specialize. It is slightly easier to get into a DO School.
Another possibility is to become a Podiatrist (feet only).
