How can i become a caliber college 2nd baseman?

HEllo i am going to be a freshmen in college and i was going to tryout for the baseball team but some family issues happened that will not allow me tryout this year so i wanted to know what should i work on so that as a sophmore i can tryout and really impress the coaches and make the team as a 2nd baseman
what should i work on

if i were you id work on footwork and range in the field and becoming a solid dependable contact hitter at the plate and the most important in my eyes at least become a knowledgeable player know your situations and what you should do in every possible situation you may ever encounter in a game what base to go to and where you should be covering during pick offs be smart at the plate if your teamate steals and got a great jump just take the pitch as long as its not strike 3 ya know just basic stuff this might not have coaches saying wow look at that but if theres competition between you and another 2nd baseman and he sees you doing all these things your a shoe in
