culture, particularly in the the caribbean and neighboring isles such as Jamaica in particular relates to tourism Much. Much more so that the south pacific isles such as Hawaii and Fiji, but about as much as "tourist destinations " in Latin America,, Cental America and mexico. Culture relates to tourism because it has been notorious for destroying or taking over and eventually "warping" cultures which is a sadbut accurate truth. For instance, in hawaii, when private high-rise beach resorts began " comming up roses" employees were purposely hired if they looked like "natives" of Hawaii to keep the improper sterotypical "exotic" appearance for the pasty white tourists wh sought o ":get away" from wherever they were flying in from so, hotel managers of hotels in hot, tropical areas create a "controlled exotic" atmosphere for ther guests by reinforcing the racial and feminine sterotypes for instance, consider belly dancers, "hula dancers"or Sri-NuanSri-Nuan (traditional ) thai dancers of Thailand , notice a cultural gender bender? , mostly all the exploited employees are women in tight revealing clothes playing the peppy, docile, compliant woman_ not a good thing! culture relates to tourism because it is a catch-22 for the people if affects who usually have little or no choice but to work in those jobs or almost as worse, servitude positions which degrades all women;s potential and vigor considerably. female's roles in tourism are gendered, just as are their other roles are gendered in thier culture. Remember, tourism affects women uch differently than it affects the local men. when development tourist chains start building in the area. Before too long the economy becomes dependant on working those low paying, self-degrading jobs and given eneough time, the beautiful culture becomes forgotten and not celebrated or remembered much at all. Tourism robs culture.
