How can anyone who is educated in scripture not believe in the bible?

Not trying to pick at anyone, but I was always curious.
Even if I didn't believe in the whole relationship-with-Jesus side of the bible, I still wouldn't be able to ignore that prophesies in the bible that have come true, and are still coming true. There is just no way that Jesus isn't who he says he is, and that these prophesies aren't true. I feel as if nonreligious people refuse to study out both sides and prefer to stay willfully ignorant. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. I also feel the same way about Evolution vs. creationism. It seems to me that these rational people who follow logic have done a whole lot of researching on their side of the argument, without trying to disprove it in any way by studying the other side. Its just that I'd like to see someone who's watched the tapes, and read the books, and come to their own decision in a balanced and rational way.
If you have done the research on both sides, I'd like to hear which side you've come out on and why.

Well about the prophecies thing, quite a lot of people believe that Nostradamus is a prophet yet there are just as many things he got wrong. So I don't know where you're coming with that.

I've actually read parts of the old and new testament and while I find the moral tales valid, the historical literal parts love to defy the physical laws which govern our universe.

Also I've read and watched Creationist material and found them completely lacking in any concrete proof. They just want to take evidence and change around the meaning to fit a result rather than take evidence and form a result based on it.

Reading and studying the bible is what convinced me that it's fiction.

There are no talking donkeys, never where.
Snakes don't eat dust.
Bats are not birds.
The earth is not the center of the universe and it's not flat.
People don't walk on water, part seas, come back from the dead, or multiply loaves and fish to feed hundreds, or populate the earth through incest.
All the animals on earth can't fit into a craft described in the bible.
Pi is not 3

I could go on...

I've done reaserch on both sides theist and atheist and I came out thiest,Christian to be exact.
I came to my conclusion because I was able to create my own answer and understanding to the questions posed by the inductive, deductive and empirical arguments against the Existence of God.
That way I wouldn't just go with the answers given to me by the people on both the theistic and atheistic sides.
I also looked at all religions I was interested in and saw that if I'm wrong and the Christian or Abrahamic God isn't the right one then I am subject to several possibilities including:

-I will either be reincarnated into another being based on the Karma I created in this life.

-My ātman ( true self) will or won't be reunited with my Brahman (supreme being or God I guess you could call it).

However if I am right and a God exists I will be right in at least one way, and my belief in a God will be confounded.
And if I am right and the Abrahamic God exists then my beliefs will be confounded in two ways
1. that fact a God exists
2. the fact that the God I believe in exists.
I also entertained the possibility that perhaps many religions all lead to one God through different paths. So that would also cover me as I am a believer in a religion and a God.
Now by not believing in anything I would be dismissing all of these concepts and in my opionion I would have a greater chance of being wrong.
As for your first question I find many non-believers(meaning only those I have encountered )start looking to the bible to confirm their Atheism.
That to me is interesting because nearly all that I have encountered are ex-theist.
Many of whom never took the chance to analyze and study the bible when they were believers. They were just blindly following and not looking for their own understanding of the belief system they were being taught. This creates a large amount of doubt when they are faced with a person or situation that challenges their beliefs. Now with the doubt in place they start to see things that appeal to that doubt and confirm the doubt as a truth in their opinion.
But to my knowledge many non-believers did lots of research and deep thought before they came to their conclusion. And I would never say they are ignorant but those who didn't do all the work are just going with their feelings like anyone else.

Sorry for the long answer I hope I was clear lol.

Jesus did not fulfill the Jewish prophecies about the Messiah.

What is the Messiah supposed to accomplish? The Bible says that he will:

A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28).
B. Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6).
C. Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation" neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4)
D. Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: "God will being over all the world -- on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9)

Jesus fulfilled none of these messianic prophecies.
