How can a new 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250R be protected from theft?

My niece just bought a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. She loves it, so she went out and got insurance on it, but she didn't get theft insurance because the rate came out to $2000 a year (roughly) with it. That's nuts, in two years she could buy another bike. So now she is out to get all the advice she can on how to protect it from theft. She is aware of steering locking and all that, but the bike can be thrown into the back of a truck in seconds, so that's no good really. A chain would be great but a lot of places have to places to hook a chain. Are there any tricks to chaining it? For example, her community college has a nice motorcycle parking area, but no where to hook a chain. What should she do? Are there any alarms that are good, that aren't going to go off when a breeze goes by? It's kept in a garage at home, she's worried about when she's out and about doing things. Any advice would be much appreciated? She's new to this. :)
